Pollination Pavilion
Project Type
Ecologies, Client Work
Date
Fall 2023
Location
Mobile, Alabama
The Dog River Trail, located in Mobile, Alabama, is a long stretch of walking path that is inaccessible for citizens and deteriorating. Our studio was challenged with the task to implement both a natural system and shape the design based upon a systemic graphic drawing governed by a set of rules. The result is a biodiverse walking trail that implements a pollinator “hotel” to help improve the native pollinator population while also giving them access to clean, non-fertilized food sources. The drive to help pollinators was influenced by data surrounding the decline of native pollinator populations, particularly honeybees as a result water runoff from herbicides and insecticides in large scale agriculture.
